This season, in addition to the industry standard best shape of his life (aka BSOHL) proclamations and eccentric, only-in-Arizona injuries, there's another reason to dust off your respective home-team hats and protective cups: MTV2 and MLB are teaming up for a new TV series called Off the Bat from the MLB Fan Cave. Executive produced by David Ortiz, Off the Bat will give baseball fans an inside look at MLB stars' off-field lives, with highbrow topics ranging from favorite restaurants to impressive sneaker collections. Try using sabermetrics to project what Big Papi's favorite pair of Pumas are, nerds. Advertisement The show will serve as a platform for sluggers and hurlers alike to share their love for pop culture and entertainment, while hopefully providing the latter for those tuning in. In addition to Ortiz, Seattle Mariners' Robinson Cano, Baltimore Orioles' Adam Jones, Atlanta Braves' Craig Kimbrel as well as 2013 Rookie of the Year Award winners José Fernández (of the Miami Marlins) and Wil Myers (of the Tampa Bay Rays) will join as individual episode producers and even on-screen talent.Hosted by a quadfecta of cross-genre talent, Sway, Fat Joe, Chris Distefano and Melanie Iglesias will be the co-faces of the show. The hosts will conduct in-studio interviews with MLB players and visiting celebrities, and star in prerecorded pieces outside of the Fan Cave. Sponsored MTV2 has already ordered 30 episodes of the weekly, half-hour Off the Bat series, which means viewers will be privy to at least 900 minutes affirming why professional athletes' lives are better than yours.Off the Bat from the MLB Fan Cave premieres tomorrow night at 11 PM ET on MTV2.Ben Berkon is a freelance writer and unintentional beard-grower.
