In the upcoming HBO original movie Fahrenheit 451, Michael B. Jordan plays Guy Montag, a “fireman” in charge of burning books in a dark dystopian vision of our future. Adapted from the classic Ray Bradbury novel, the movie may merely seem like science fiction, but the world of Fahrenheit 451 is much closer to our own reality than we’d like to admit. We have a long and scary tradition of burning and banning books, often for completely ridiculous reasons.

How well do you know our censorship history? Take our quiz to see if you can guess why these classic books were banned. And remember to tune in to HBO’s original movie Fahrenheit 451 on Saturday, May 19 at 8pm to see what could happen when a censor-happy society spins out of control.

How many did you guess correctly? Let us know in the comments below.
